Aston Villa entertained Southampton at Villa Park earlier tonight as they looked to earn a good result in the Premier League. The Villans made a decent start to the game and managed to take the lead in the 41st minute when Jacob Ramsey scored from close range. The West Midlands club were leading 1-0 at the half-time break.
Steven Gerrard’s men protected their advantage well in the second 45 minutes and ensured a narrow 1-0 win in front of their home fans.

He did his fair share of defending and was there at the right place to open the goal-scoring for Aston Villa just before the half-time break.
CM: Boubacar Kamara – 7/10
The Frenchman offered decent protection for his teammates at the back but could last only 43 minutes.
CM: John McGinn – 7.5/10
McGinn didn’t shy away from a tackle and had some encouraging moments in the opponent’s half.
RAM: Leon Bailey – 6.5/10
He was always willing to fight for the ball but there was no goal for him tonight.
LAM: Philippe Coutinho – 6.5/10
The Brazilian playmaker caused a few headaches for the Southampton defenders but didn’t do enough to score.

The English forward did his fair share of defending but was mostly feeding off scraps on the attacking end of the field.
