In a recent report, Defensa Central revealed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao next summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos could launch a move for the Portuguese wide player in 2023.
Leao’s Recent Form In Italian Football
Leao had a terrific campaign at San Siro as he produced a series of productive performances for AC Milan in the final third. The 23-year-old registered 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 matches for the Italian giants last season on all fronts.
The Almada-born talent gave a good account of himself down the left flank based on his average of 2.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has to take care of the ball a bit better in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 74.8% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Leao will just have a year left to run in his contract at San Siro at the end of this campaign. Hence, Real Madrid would be in a good position to acquire his services on a cut-price deal next summer.
What Will Leao Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Team?
Leao has been a consistent performer at San Siro over the past 12 months. He has proven his worth as a prolific winger who can also earn his fair share of assists in the attacking end of the field.
The Portuguese sensation is also a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can cause a lot of headaches for his marker out on the wide areas. However, as mentioned earlier, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opponent’s half. Still, there is no denying that the talented winger has what it takes to become a future star in European football.
Someone of Leao’s skillset will be a terrific acquisition for Los Blancos at the end of this season as he will add a lot of goals and assists to Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline. He is good enough to offer some serious competition for Vinicius Junior at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Leao’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent fit for the Madrid giants next summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese wide player can maintain his good form in La Liga if Ancelotti can successfully bring him on board in 2023.
