Manchester United locked horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium earlier today as they looked to secure their first away victory of this Premier League campaign. The Red Devils began the game well but were held to a scoreless draw at half-time.

The visitors put more pressure in the second half and got their noses ahead in the 55th minute courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ excellent finish. Man United defended their narrow advantage well and got over the line with a narrow 1-0 win away from home.

Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the Saints.

GK: David de Gea – 7.5/10

The Spanish keeper made a handful of solid saves at the back and performed well to keep an important clean sheet on the road.

RB: Diogo Dalot – 8.5/10

Dalot gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and produced a bright display in the opposition half as well. He picked up an assist for setting up Fernandes’ goal.

CB: Raphael Varane – 6.5/10

He made a lot of crucial clearances inside his half and was tidy with his passing.

CB: Lisandro Martinez – 7.5/10

Martinez was strong in the air and did a lot of work defensively to keep a clean sheet at the back.

He hardly put a foot wrong in the game when defending at the back but offered very little in the final third.

CM: Scott McTominay – 7/10

McTominay offered decent protection for his teammates inside his half and had a few lively moments in the Southampton half.

CM: Christian Eriksen – 6.5/10

He passed the ball really well at times and engineered a couple of decent chances in the final third.

RW: Anthony Elanga – 6.5/10

Elanga created some decent chances for others around him but never looked like he would score.

CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 7.5/10

The Portugal international was a constant threat on the attacking end of the field and scored the only goal of the game with a brilliant finish.

LW: Jadon Sancho – 6.5/10

Sancho made a couple of encouraging runs with the ball but failed to threaten the opponent’s goal.

ST: Marcus Rashford – 6/10

He was quiet for most of the game and hardly got a sniff at goal.

ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 6/10

Ronaldo offered very little after coming off the bench.

CM: Casemiro – 6.5/10

He added some bite and steel to Erik ten Hag’s midfield.
