In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Leicester City star James Maddison is keen on a move to Newcastle United this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to step up their efforts to land the English playmaker during this summer transfer period.
Maddison’s Impressive Run Of Form At The King Power Stadium
The Coventry-born talent had a brilliant campaign with the Foxes in the previous campaign after he produced several match-winning performances while acting as a key member of Brendan Rodgers’ attack. Maddison found the back of the net on 18 occasions and picked up 12 assists in 53 matches for the East Midlands club last season across multiple competitions.
The English talent gave a good account of himself in the final third as he averaged 2.1 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even careful when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass success rate of 80.7% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Maddison A Good Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Maddison can strike the ball purely and with a lot of venom which makes him a goal threat from long range. He can even engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates in the attacking end of the field and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. The English talent is primarily an attacking midfielder who can even serve as a box-to-box midfielder or function as a winger on either flank if needed.
Someone of Maddison’s quality would be a massive coup for the Magpies as he will inject a lot of quality into Eddie Howe‘s attack.
The one-time England international is good enough to become a regular starter at St. James’ Park. Hence, he will be an excellent choice for the Tyneside giants to consider before the end of this summer transfer window.
At 25, Maddison will only improve his offensive numbers in the coming seasons when he hits the peak stage of his playing career. He could even help Newcastle compete for a European place in Premier League football next season.
