Chelsea locked horns with Leeds United at Elland Road earlier today as they looked to earn maximum points on the road. The Blues made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 33rd minute when Brenden Aaronson capitalised on Edouard Mendy’s mistake to put Leeds ahead. The home side doubled their advantage just four minutes later when Rodrigo found the back of the net with a good header. Thomas Tuchel’s men went into the half-time break 2-0 down on the scoreline.
The Blues failed to mount a comeback in the second half and conceded their third goal in the 69th minute when Jack Harrison scored from close range. The match ended with the West London club suffering a 3-0 defeat away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the clash against the Whites.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 4/10
The Senegalese keeper made a horror error in the lead-up to Aaronson’s goal. He would be disappointed after conceding three goals today.
CB: Reece James – 7.5/10
He was solid when defending inside his half and had a few lively moments going forward.
CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10
The Brazilian talent cleared the danger when required and secured the ball back twice for his team.
CB: Kalidou Koulibaly – 5.5/10
He got booked early in the game and was walking a defensive tightrope for the remainder of the contest. Koulibaly lost his head and got booked again in the 84th minute which means an automatic one-game suspension.
RM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 7/10
Loftus-Cheek worked hard defensively and made some driving runs with the ball down the right flank.
CM: Jorginho – 6.5/10
The Italian talent got stuck in with some solid tackles but produced a lackluster display in the opposition half.
CM: Mason Mount – 7/10
He got himself into some dangerous areas in the final third and orchestrated a few promising chances deep inside the opponent’s half. However, he lacked the cutting edge in front of the Leeds goal.
CM: Conor Gallagher – 6.5/10
Gallagher protected his backline well but lacked quality on the attacking end of the field.
LM: Marc Cucurella – 6.5/10
The Spanish sensation was sometimes ball-watching defensively and flattered to deceive with his performance in the final third.
ST: Kai Havertz – 6/10
Havertz struggled to get a foothold in the game and never got a sniff at goal.
ST: Raheem Sterling – 6/10
The English speedster had a goal chalked off as off-side. He was quiet in the second half.
Substitutes:
RAM: Hakim Ziyech – 6.5/10
He was a real threat in front of the opposition goal.
LAM: Chrisitan Pulisic – 6/10
Pulisic had some bright moments after coming off the bench.
LM: Ben Chilwell – 6/10
He offered very little after coming on in the 78th minute.
CB: Cesar Azpilicueta – N/A
The Spanish defender didn’t get enough time to influence the game.
