In a recent report, The Sun stated that West Ham United are looking to sign Blackburn star Ben Brereton Diaz after successfully completing a deal for Gianluca Scamacca. It is understood that the Hammers are planning to pair the strikers to add to their attacking prowess.
Diaz’s Impressive Spell With Balckburn Last Season
Brereton Diaz had a fantastic campaign for Blackburn Rovers last season as he banged in 22 goals and created 3 assists over 37 appearances in the second tier of English football. He produced a series of impressive displays in the attacking end of the field to catch the eyes of David Moyes.
The Chile international performed consistently in the frontline based on his averages of 2.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1,6 dribbles per game in the English Championship. However, he was only decent with his ball distribution as he completed 73.5% of his attempted passes in the league (stats via whoscored).
Is It A Good Move From West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Ben Brereton is a prolific goal scorer as he can accurately find the back of the net inside the penalty box. He excels at getting past defenders to create space for himself. The Chilean forward is a counter-attacking threat who can confidently convert the opportunities created by his teammates.
The 23-year-old’s addition to David Moyes’ frontline would take the burden off of Michael Antonio as he can play up top and in the wide areas. We could see a beautiful partnership with Diaz and Scamacca as a two-man strike team which would add a lot of firepower to the Hammers’ attacking department.
David Moyes has been wise to identify him as a potential target this off-season as he’s a promising attacker who has the potential to perform at a high level. Moyes should do well to bring him to London Stadium before the summer transfer window concludes.
