According to a recent report from Express, it is stated that Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in signing Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina. It is understood that Antonio Conte has been busy revamping the squad to prepare them for the next campaign as Spurs head into four different competitions, and the Italian tactician is still looking for defensive reinforcements.
Milenkovic’s Solid Campaign With Fiorentina Last Season
Milenkovic has produced some dominant displays in the defensive third of the field. He managed to score two goals over 39 appearances for the Italian outfit last season across multiple competitions.
The Serbian centre-back has established himself as a key player in Fiorentina’s defensive department after averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.7 clearances per game in Serie A. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 89.6 % of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Could He Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Milenkovic has a solid presence in the backline. He can time his tackles well and remains quick to anticipate danger from his opponents. The Serbian defender doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle and can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back for his side.
Standing at 1.95 meters, his tall and strong frame helps him dominate his opponents in the air. Furthermore, he can clear his lines and remains adept at passing the ball to play his way out from the back.
This makes him a good fit for Antonio Conte’s three-man backline. He would bring more competition to the Lilywhites’ defensive department and add more depth to the squad.
Spurs’ should definitely move in for him, and they could make a more lucrative offer to acquire him ahead of the next campaign.
