In a recent report, Mirror stated that Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Jules Kounde of Sevilla. It is understood that the price tag for the French centre-back is said to be £76 million and Conte believes there’s room for one more defender even after Clement Lenglet’s arrival from Spain.
Kounde’s Campaign For Sevilla Last Season
Kounde had a solid campaign as he produced some dominant displays in the centre-half of Sevilla’s defence last season. He managed to score two goals and grab one assist over 37 appearances across all fronts.
The Paris-born sensation performed consistently to average 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game in La Liga. He was even tidy with his ball distribution completing 88.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Conte Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur?
Jules Kounde is a hard-tackling defender who can clear his lines when he senses danger from the opposition. He has the strength to hold down attackers and guard the ball. At 1.78m, he does not have the height to dominate his opponents in aerial battles but can put his body on the line for blocking inbound shots.
The 23-year-old is primarily a centre-back but remains versatile to feature in the right-back position when required. He has shown his class and calibre proving that he has the potential to become a fearsome defender. He excels at playing his way out from the back and would be a brilliant addition to Antonio Conte’s back-three system.
However, it would not be easy for the Lilywhites to meet Sevilla’s demands and balance the books. If Spurs want to bring him to North London they have to make a bid before the other Premier League clubs who have shown their interest or else they might lose out on a promising target.
