In a recent report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte opened up about the plan for several players in the club who have not been included in the Hotspur Way this off-season.
Sergio Reguilon is one of the players who has been linked with a move away from Spurs and Conte has made it prevalent by not including him in his plans for the pre-season tour earlier this month.
Reguilon’s Campaign With Tottenham Hotspur Last Season
Sergio Reguilon was a regular in Spurs starting Xi last season but soon fell down the pecking order as Ryan Sessegnon made his way up. The 25-year-old made the most out of his appearances last season as he scored two goals and created three assists in 25 matches in the English first division.
The Spanish international averaged 1.2 key passes, 1.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was also tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78.7% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Conte Cash In On Him?
Reguilon is a decent tackler of the ball, as he doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle. He can make a few decent runs down the left flank to create opportunities in the final third. He can keep hold of the ball and does well to distribute possession for his side. However, the rise of Ryan Sessegnon has seen Reguilon fall further down the pecking order.
Antonio Conte’s overhaul has seen him being left out of the starting Xi, and even though the Lilywhites are competing in four different competitions next season, the Italian tactician has made it evident that he has no room for the Spanish left-back.
A move away from Spurs might be the only viable option for Reguilon, considering that he is only 25 and can still perform at a high level if he regains confidence by playing regularly for another team.
Tottenham should sell him for the right price as he only remains a surplus to their requirements ahead of the next campaign.
