In a recent print edition, Tuttosport mentioned that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues have identified the Slovak talent as a target for this summer transfer window.
Skriniar’s Impressive Form At San Siro Last Season
Skriniar had another solid campaign with Inter recently as he was responsible for putting in a run of dominant displays at the centre of their backline. However, he could only help the Milan side secure a second-place finish in Serie A. The Slovak defensive ace made 48 appearances for the Italian side last season, finding the back of the net on four occasions in the process on all fronts.
The 27-year-old proved himself to be a reliable performer on the defensive end of the field after he averaged 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 2.5 clearances per game in the Serie A. Skriniar was even excellent when distributing possession from the back as he made 92.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Skriniar Add To Chelsea Head Coach Thomas Tuchel?
Skriniar is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions when defending inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his powerful 1.88m frame to win a few 50-50 duels in the air.
The Slovak centre-half is even proficient at playing his way out from the back which makes him a good option for Chelsea to pursue in this off-season. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if the Blues can get a deal done for him this summer.
At 27, Skriniar is playing in his prime and has what it takes to help the West London club challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
We can expect the Inter Milan star to add more bite and steel to Thomas Tuchel’s defensive department at Stamford Bridge. Thus, the Blues should focus on trying everything they can to get Skriniar on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
