In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Aston Villa are monitoring Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher who had a fruitful loan spell at Crystal Palace recently. O’Rourke said,
“I think Villa and a number of Premier League clubs will be potentially looking at Conor Gallagher this summer.
“He was a massive success at Crystal Palace last year, he’s broken into the England squad, but if he’s not going to play for Chelsea, I’m sure most of the Premier League would probably sign Conor Gallagher if he became available.
“So, I’m sure Aston Villa will be no different. I’m sure they’ll be keeping tabs on his situation at Stamford Bridge just like most of the Premier League will be.”
Gallagher’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season
Gallagher had a great loan stay at Selhurst Park in the previous campaign as he managed to produce a handful of match-winning displays for the Eagles in the final third. The Epsom-born talent found the back of the net on eight occasions and secured five assists in 39 matches for Crystal Palace last season across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a consistent performer for Patrick Viera’s side after he averaged 2.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.5 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. Gallagher has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield as he made 81.2% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Will Gallagher Bring To Aston Villa?
Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team. He usually works hard off the ball and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. The English sensation has even got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him and can complete some exciting dribbles in the opponent’s half.
Therefore, Gallagher will be a great acquisition for Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to pull off this summer. At 22, he has got a very promising future ahead which makes him a perfect, long-term option for the Villans.
We can expect Gallagher to add more quality to Gerrard’s midfield. He is already good enough to help the West Midlands club challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons.
