In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Aston Villa are set to recruit Rangers youngster Rory Wilson this summer. It is understood that the Villans have agreed on personal terms with the Scottish forward who is expected to seal a move to Villa Park on July 1st.

Wilson’s Impressive Rise In Scottish Football

The 16-year-old has done well to come through the youth ranks of Rangers and managed to help his side win the Scottish Youth Cup earlier this year. The talented frontman has caught the eye on the international stage as well after he scored eight goals in 11 matches for Scotland’s Under-17 team. However, he is still waiting to earn his first senior cap for Scotland.

Wilson banged in 49 goals at the youth level last season. Thus, it is no surprise that Aston Villa are hoping to secure his signature this off-season. However, the Scottish prospect is still quite inexperienced, so Steven Gerrard would have to be patient with his progress in the coming seasons. Still, there is no doubt that he has got the right mentality to be a success story in top-flight football someday.

Is Wilson A Prospect For The Future?

Wilson has already shown that he can be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal. He has a knack for finding space for himself and often tests the opponent’s keeper with his shot attempts.

The Scottish wonderkid is still quite raw and might need some time to settle into life in English football. However, the Villans would do well to get him on board as he has the potential to become a future star in the Premier League as long as he continues to put in the work on the training ground.

At 16, Wilson has already made a name for himself back in his homeland. Hence, Gerrard has every reason to be optimistic about the youngster’s chances of making it through to his first team at Villa Park someday.

Wilson is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future and could go on to become a fan favorite at the West Midlands club in a few years.
