In a recent report, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool are looking to cash in on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer. It is believed that the Reds are prepared to sell the English talent amid interest from West Ham United and Aston Villa ahead of the summer transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Season Of Mixed Emotions At Anfield
Oxlade-Chamberlain has served as a decent squad player for the Merseyside outfit despite struggling to find consistency for most of the recently concluded Premier League campaign. The 35-time England international has scored three times and secured three assists in 29 appearances for Liverpool during this campaign across all competitions.
The ex-Southampton talent managed to catch the eye with some impressive displays in the EFL Cup where he averaged 2.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game earlier this season. He even distributed the ball well in the opponent’s half after completing 81.1% of his attempted passes in the Carabao Cup (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Jurgen Klopp Cut Oxlade-Chamberlain Loose This Summer?
Oxlade-Chamberlain remains a decent dribbler with the ball and can be an influential presence in the opposition half when he is playing regularly on the field. He got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
The England international can even shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has often been unleashed as a box-to-box midfielder this season but is versatile enough to fill in as a winger on either flank if needed.
The lack of playing time has not done his confidence any good. Still, he has a lot to be happy about at the Merseyside club after winning both domestic trophies this season.
Maybe this summer is the right time for Oxlade-Chamberlain to move on in search of more playing time in the coming seasons. With all things considered, the Reds would be wise to cut the English sensation loose when the transfer window reopens later this year.
