In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Liverpool are among several clubs hoping to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele. It is understood that the Reds could face competition from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for the French wide player whose contract at the Nou Camp expires this summer.
Dembele’s Impressive Numbers In Spanish Football This Season
Dembele has enjoyed a decent season at Barcelona after putting in several match-winning displays as a key member of Xavi’s frontline. The 25-year-old has scored two goals and earned 13 assists in 32 matches for the Catalan outfit during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The Vernon-born talent has given a good account of himself down the left-wing as he is averaging 2.2 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.4% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Head Coach Jurgen Klopp Move In For Dembele This Summer?
Dembele has got loads of pace under his belt which he can use to leave his marker to bite the dust out on the wide areas. He is a technically gifted footballer who can engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. Dembele is versatile enough to play as a winger on either flank if needed which has made him such an important member of Xavi’s squad this season. However, the French youngster needs to work on improving his finishing if wants to become a success story at a place like Liverpool.
Someone of Dembele’s skillset will no doubt be a good signing for the Reds as he will improve the depth of Jurgen Klopp‘s squad considerably ahead of the new season.
The former Bundesliga talent has also won a lot of trophies during his young career, so he won’t have any trouble managing the growing expectations at the Merseyside club. Therefore, Klopp should think about moving in for Dembele by offering him a lucrative contract when he becomes a free agent later this summer.
