Qualifying for the UEFA Champions League was crucial for Tottenham Hotspur but the squad certainly requires further improvement if they wish to end their long wait for silverware.
The last summer was primarily spent on keeping Harry Kane from joining Manchester City whereas the upcoming transfer window this summer would undoubtedly be focused on ensuring that Antonio Conte’s progress in the second half of the season works as a foundation to be built upon.
In addition, Conte could very well bring in over five players for various areas on the pitch, as the upcoming transfer window remains pivotal for Spurs at the moment.
Key Areas Where Tottenham Hotspur Should Focus Upon Ahead Of The 2022-23 Season
Keeping toe to toe with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool is immensely difficult as witnessed in this season. Spurs lacked behind by 22 points and 21 points respectively, and closing in on the gap in the next season is certainly a difficult task but not something impossible. If Spurs hope to provide tough competition they’ll without a doubt require a strong bench, which has quality and quantity that could add to the squad substantially.
Bench
With Cristian Romero, Matt Doherty, Oliver Skipp and Sergio Reguilon being in the treatment room for the final weeks, it was evident that the squad lacked the depth to provide any sort of a cover, so Conte would likely bring in over 5 to 6 experienced and talented individuals to enhance the starting XI and add depth to the squad.
Defence
Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol are reportedly on the list as they look to sign a left-sided centre back despite Ben Davies being in superb form. The backline will be subject to a lot of addition as they will be prioritising securing the signature of a right-wing back to provide cover in the right flank.
Midfield
The midfield area has been strengthened with the addition of Rodrigo Bentancur this season; despite that the midfield should require more depth. Hojbjerg and Bentancur are certain to be in the starting XI of Conte next season but the gaffer will likely bring in another midfielder to add more competition.
It is of foremost importance that the new signings also settle in and adapt as quickly as Romero, Bentancur and Kulusevski did this season to make sure the Lilywhites are capable of competing with the other Premier League giants next season.
