Failing to secure a top-four place, Arsenal now head into the transfer window with the fact being very evident that they are in dire need of a centre-forward ahead of the next season.
The Gunners’ ultimate goal to secure a UCL place slipped out of their hands as they fell short to Tottenham Hotspur in the top-four run. It is paramount that they share the same goals for the next season and wish to come out even stronger as they look to compete for English top-flight football, with one eye being on the UEFA Europa League cup.
Mikel Arteta’s starting XI was surprisingly comprised of young players from the outset, with a handful of players having enough experience on the pitch. This transfer window remains pivotal for Arsenal as they look to add more depth to the squad and focus on their frontline even more.
Key Areas Where Arsenal Should Focus Upon In The Upcoming Transfer Window
The Gunners were the Premier League’s highest spenders last summer as they spent £140m in signing talented players for all the necessary departments, the incoming signings remained mostly successful despite Arsenal failing to meet their targets this season.
This summer would certainly be very different as Mikel Arteta looks to add more quality to the starting XI. Failing to secure a Champions League place is undoubtedly a major setback which will impact their finances but a promising project for the future and a persuasive manager is seemingly compelling enough to attract talented individuals to Emirates Stadium.
Forward
The Gunners have been very busy the past few months looking to secure a centre-forward to their liking which after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s exit from the Emirates Stadium remains a top priority.
Arsenal’s list includes well-known players, with the likes of already experienced Premier League strikers and a few talented prospects from Serie A. They are yet to come to terms with their striker situation as Eddie Nketiah has a few weeks until his contract expires. Should the forward decide to stay and extend his contract, he will likely be facing competition from a new signing.
Midfield
Arteta’s current midfield comprising Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka and Elneny in the starting XI has proven to be promising. However, adding more depth and competition should only bring forth an improvement in the quality. Odegaard’s permanent transfer was deemed successful as the Norwegian playmaker took immediate responsibility in the middle of the pitch for this season. Albert Sambi Lokonga’s addition did not provide enough impact, although a new signing in the midfield area could amp up the competition.
