Manchester City are set to visit Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday night as City could book a semifinal place by avoiding defeat away to Atletico in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash. The Mancunian giants secured a one-goal lead over Atletico in the first leg performance and they would hope to clinch a win in the next leg.

Atletico Madrid surprisingly fell to a defeat away to Mallorca as they remain on the brink of dropping out of the top four in La Liga. Although Diego Simeone’s side will be urged on by a vociferous backing at their stadium, albeit falling short of 5000 fans due to a UEFA ruling against the Atletico fans following discriminatory behaviour in Manchester.

Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid: Talking Tactics

Pep Guardiola will set his side up in a 4-3-3 formation and could ask his players to dominate possession and engineer some clear-cut chances in the attacking end of the field.

Diego Simeone could opt for a 4-4-2 formation and might instruct his men to defend their penalty box with numbers and try to expose some of Man City’s defensive frailty on the counter.

Atletico Madrid

Jan Oblak can expect a busy night, so he has to find a way to make a few world-class stops and keep the opposition from scoring in their half.

Antoine Griezmann will have to carry most of the goal-scoring burden for his team up top with Joao Felix to support him with his runs if they wish to shut Manchester City out of the European contest.
