Chelsea faced off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg. The Blues began the game well and opened the goal-scoring in the 15th minute courtesy of Mason Mount’s right-footed strike. Thomas Tuchel’s men controlled the game well and got into the half-time break 1-0 ahead on the night.
Antonio Rudiger scored Chelsea’s second goal with a powerful header in the 51st minute. Timo Werner put his team 3-0 ahead in the 75th minute but Rodrygo got a goal back for Los Blancos just five minutes later which took the match to extra time as it finished 4-4 on aggregate.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal in extra time as the contest finished 3-2 in favour of Thomas Tuchel’s men. However, Chelsea ended up losing the tie on aggregate by a 5-4 scoreline which knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League.
