Aston Villa welcomed Norwich City at Villa Park earlier this afternoon as they focused on earning a win at home. The Villans made a bright start to the contest and got themselves ahead in the 41st minute via Ollie Watkins’ good finish from a tight angle. The West Midlands club went into the half-time interval 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Steven Gerrard’s men sat on their lead well and finally managed to kill the game off in injury time when Danny Ings found the back of the net. The Villans ended up securing an impressive 2-0 win in front of their home supporters.

Mings made a few important interceptions inside his half and cleared the danger when required.

The French full-back didn’t do much wrong on the defensive end of the pitch and created some decent chances in the final third.

He anchored the midfield quite well but offered very little in the opponent’s half.
RW: Leon Bailey – 6/10
Bailey struggled to influence the game and could last only 39 minutes.
CM: John McGinn – 7/10
The Scottish midfielder made a lot of solid tackles and had a couple of lively moments in the final third.
CM: Jacob Ramsey – 7/10
He caused a few problems for the opposition but didn’t do enough to score today.
LW: Philippe Coutinho – 7/10
Coutinho engineered a few inviting chances in the attacking end of the field but failed to find the back of the net.
ST: Ollie Watkins – 8/10
The English striker was a constant menace in the final third and scored the all-important opening goal just before the half-time interval which gave his team a good platform to secure the win.

He came off the bench in the first half and picked up a good assist for setting up Watkins’ goal. Ings was unfortunate to hit the crossbar but ended up getting his name on the scoresheet in injury time.

Buendia came on and secured an assist late in the game.
