Spanish outlet Fichajes has recently reported that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos has identified the English talent as an ideal replacement for Luka Modric.
Maddison’s Impressive Numbers At The King Power Stadium
Maddison is enjoying a decent season at Leicester after putting in a handful of eye-catching performances as a key member of their attack. The former Coventry City player has scored 13 goals and picked up seven assists in 40 appearances for the East Midlands side during this campaign in various competitions.
The 25-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football.
He has even been careful when linking up play with his teammates in the final third after making 81.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Snap Maddison Up This Summer?
Maddison is an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can be a hard man to stop when he is dribbling at full swing in the final third. He has got the vision to create some clear-cut chances for others around him and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Furthermore, the English talent can retain possession well in the opposition half but is yet to taste success at the highest level.
Recruiting Maddison could be a major coup for Los Blancos as he will add more firepower to Carlo Ancelotti‘s attack. He will even serve as an ideal successor to Luka Modric who is entering the twilight years of his playing career at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
At 25, Maddison has his peak years ahead of him, so he will be a great signing for the Madrid giants for the long-run. The Leicester City star is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if needed. Hence, Maddison’s versatility and productivity make him a decent choice for Real to consider this summer. Therefore, Ancelotti should think about arranging a move to snap the English playmaker up in the off-season.
