Manchester United faced off against Leeds United at Elland Road earlier today as they looked to earn all three points on their travels. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 34th minute courtesy of Harry Maguire’s header. Bruno Fernandes doubled Man United’s advantage in the first half injury-time when he scored with a good header from close range. Ralf Rangnick’s men went into the half-time break 2-0 up on the scoreline.
The home team scored two quick-fire goals courtesy of Rodrigo’s excellent strike and Raphinha’s finish from point-blank range. However, Fred helped Man United regain their lead in the 70th minute before Anthony Elanga made the points secure for the visitors late in the game. The contest ended with the Mancunian giants securing an impressive 4-2 win away at Yorkshire.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the clash against the Whites.
GK: David de Gea – 7/10
The Spanish keeper made a few important saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding two goals early in the second half.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5/10
He was a solid presence on the defensive end of the field and made some decent runs with the ball down the right flank.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6.5/10
Lindelof cleared the danger when needed and was adventurous when playing his way out from the back. However, he was caught ball-watching at times as well.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7/10
The English centre-back struggled to command his penalty box with authority but deserves credit for scoring the opening goal with a good header.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7/10
Shaw found life difficult when defending inside his half. However, he made two good runs in the Leeds half and managed to engineer some good openings for others around him.
CM: Paul Pogba – 7.5/10
The French sensation ran the show for Man United in the first half. He made multiple runs with the ball but failed to register a goal.
CM: Scott McTominay – 6.5/10
He worked hard to protect his backline but struggled to get into the flow of the game.
RW: Jesse Lingard – 6/10
Lingard offered very little in the final third and could last only 66 minutes.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
He caused a lot of problems for the opposition and has got a goal and an assist to show for his efforts.
LW: Jadon Sancho – 8.5/10
Sancho caused plenty of headaches for the Leeds centre-backs and ended the game with two assists to his name.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 6.5/10
He had a few lively moments in the final third but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
Substitutes:
CM: Fred – 7/10
Fred added some energy to Man United’s midfield and scored his team’s crucial third goal.
LW: Anthony Elanga – 7/10
He came off the bench to seal the points for the Red Devils with a late strike.
CB: Raphael Varane – N/A
Varane didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
