A 26-year-old sports writer and an aspiring football coach who has road-tripped across the Scottish Highlands, but has never been to Wales. Sucker for cliff-hangers and catchy riffs. Known to be a grunger and not to be a stranger.

In a recent interview with DAZN (via AS) Leeds United full-back Junior Firpo revealed that he wants to return to Spain and seal a move back to Real Betis someday. Firpo said,

“I would love to spend a lot of time here, but, well, in the end, the house always wins and I would like to return to Betis, obviously,”

Firpo’s Decent Campaign In English Football

Firpo has experienced a tough season at Elland Road so far but has done well to play a prominent role for the Whites recently. The 25-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit during this campaign, picking up one assist in the process across multiple competitions.

The former Barcelona talent deserves some credit for averaging 2.4 shots, 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 clearances and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 82.6% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Can Leeds United Allow Firpo To Leave This Summer?

Firpo can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition and is often quick to react to the danger that helps him secure the ball back for his team. He doesn’t mind tracking back to defend his penalty box and usually clears his lines when required.

The Dominican Republic sensation can even engineer some decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He can also keep the ball moving quite well from the wide areas but needs to be a bit more consistent with his productivity going forward.

At 25, Firpo has his best years ahead of him, so it makes no sense for the Whites to let him leave this summer. He remains an important member of Leeds‘ first XI and could grow into a top talent for them at Elland Road in the coming seasons.

At the moment, the West Yorkshire giants should not consider allowing Firpo to leave at the end of this campaign as he has what it takes to help them push for a European place over the next few years.
