In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Pete O’Rourke has offered an update on West Ham United and their pursuit of Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard. O’Rourke revealed that the Hammers have a good chance of recruiting the English attacker as he said, “The thing that gives West Ham a really good chance of getting this deal done is what happened previously with Lingard.

“He had a great spell on loan there last season. He knows David Moyes, he knows the club and he knows the players as well.”

Lingard’s Growing Frustrations At Manchester This Season

Lingard has endured a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford thus far after failing to make himself a regular starter for Man United over the past few months. The England international has registered two goals and one assist in 16 matches for the Red Devils this season on all fronts.

The 29-year-old has made all of his league appearances off the bench which explains why he is averaging 0.5 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has been accurate when distributing possession deep inside the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 92.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Should West Ham United Snap Lingard Up This Summer?

Lingard enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with the Hammers last season when he caught the eye by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third.

The English sensation is a good dribbler with the ball and has got the intelligence to cut open the opponent’s defence with a killer pass. He is proficient at keeping the ball moving in the attacking end of the field, so we can expect him to be a great fit for West Ham in the summer.

Lingard will add a lot of goals and assists to David Moyes‘ frontline. Furthermore, he could help the Hammers get back to challenging for a top-four place in Premier League football over the next few years. With Lingard’s current deal set to run out at the end of this campaign, the East London oufit would be wise to snap him up on a free transfer.
