In a recent segment of Bayern Insider podcast, Bild journalist Christian Falk mentioned that Everton are set to rival Newcastle United for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller. Falk said,
“The contract situation with Thomas will probably be with us for the next few days, probably weeks.
“You read it, I reported it; Everton and Newcastle are already getting their hopes up.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen, but of course, other clubs are now paying attention to Thomas, so Bayern should get a move on.”
Muller’s Incredible Record At The Allianz Arena This Season
Muller has been a great servant to the Munich club over the past decade and has continued to perform at a high level for them during this campaign. The German sensation has registered ten goals and 20 assists in 30 matches for the Bavarian giants this season in all competitions.
The 32-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.8 shots, 3.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 76.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Muller Add To Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard’s Side?
Muller has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and is a proven goal-scorer in the final third. He remains an excellent playmaker in the opposition half as well as he has still got the vision to pick out a killer pass in and around the penalty box. However, the German talent has lost a yard of pace from his game as father time is slowly catching up with him.
Still, there is no denying that an attacker of Muller’s calibre would be a massive signing for the Toffees as he will add a lot of goals and creativity to Frank Lampard‘s frontline. He is primarily a secondary striker but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player if needed.
The Bayern Munich star could even help the Merseyside outfit challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League if Lampard can devise a way to lure him to Goodison Park at the end of this season.
