In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Scotland manager Alex McLeish mentioned that Everton are in pole position to land Donny van de Beek permanently from Manchester United this summer. McLeish said, “If Man United have signed him in the first place then he’s obviously a player of great pedigree.
“A lot of clubs would have wanted him in the first place. They will be looking on with interest, keeping an eye on his situation.
“Of course, Everton might be in pole position.”
Van de Beek’s Recent Form In English Football
Van de Beek was having an uneventful campaign with the Red Devils which led to his loan move to Goodison Park during the January transfer window. The 24-year-old has featured in two matches for Everton this season but is still waiting to open his goal-scoring account for the Merseyside club.
The Dutch sensation has shown some signs of promise with his performances for the Toffees as he is averaging 2.0 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.5 shots and 0.5 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 90% of his attempted passes in top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Everton In Pole Position To Sign Van De Beek Permanently: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Van de Beek has done a bit of everything at the centre of the park. However, things have just not fallen in place for him so far in English football. The Dutch talent can anchor the midfield well when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field and can engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates up top. However, the goals have dried up for him in recent seasons due to his lack of first-team starts at his parent club Manchester United.
Thus, it makes sense for van de Beek to seek a permanent move to Goodison Park in search of more playing opportunities in the coming seasons.
Frank Lampard could also unlock the best out of the former Ajax midfield ace. Therefore, the Toffees should think about signing van de Beek permanently as it will be a good move for both the player and the Merseyside club in the long run.
