In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, Transfer insider Dean Jones revealed that Aston Villa are in a strong position to recruit Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma. Jones said,
“At some point, he has to leave Brighton. He’s not going to stay there, and Aston Villa will be in a good position to sign him.”
Bissouma’s Solid Campaign In English Football
Bissouma has been a consistent performer at the American Express Community Stadium over the past couple of years. The Mali international has registered one goal and one goal in 19 matches for the Seagulls this season across all fronts.
The 25-year-old has performed well to average 3.4 shots, 2.0 interceptions, 1.6 clearances and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield after making 88.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Bissouma The Right Choice For Aston Villa?
Bissouma is a decent tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He can offer solid protection for his teammates at the back by clearing the danger when required. The 18-time Mali international is even proficient at making a few intelligent runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box. He has got a wealth of experience in English football and ticks the right boxes in terms of what Aston Villa need this summer.
Currently, Bissouma is playing some of the best football of his playing career. Thus, it makes sense for Steven Gerrard to engineer a move to lure him to Villa Park during the summer transfer period.
At 25, the Brighton star is about to embark upon the prime years of his playing career, so he is well-equipped to make an instant impact for the Villans if Gerrard can devise a way to get him on board this summer.
Bissouma will be an excellent choice for the West Midlands outfit as he will inject a lot of quality to their midfield department and could help them challenge for European football in the coming seasons.
