In a recent report, Fotospor revealed that Turkish giants Galatasaray have set their sights on Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin. It is understood that the Turkish outfit want to offer the Toffees outcast an escape route to end his underwhelming spell in England.
Gbamin’s Nightmare Spell At Goodison Park So Far
Gbamin has found game time hard to come by at Merseyside this season after missing almost all of the previous campaign due to injury. The Ivory Coast midfielder has only made five appearances for Everton this season, picking up one assist in the process across multiple competitions.
The San Pedro-born midfield ace has failed to catch the eye with the limited playing time he has received this season as he is averaging 0.3 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, 0.3 clearances and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He also needs to improve his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 72.7% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Sanction Gbamin’s Exit This Month?
Gbamin is a tough-tackling midfielder who loves to make some crunching challenges to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He is also a decent dribbler with the ball but injuries have derailed his progress since his big move from Mainz back in 2019.
At the moment, Gbamin is not in contention to start matches for Everton which makes him surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club. He clearly has not adapted to life in English football.
The 12-time Ivory Coast international has fallen behind Andre Gomes and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the Goodison Park pecking order. At 26, there is still time for Gbamin to turn his fortunes around for the better in the coming seasons.
Thus, making a switch to Turkey makes sense for the player as it will give him a chance to make a fresh start away from English football. Everton can also benefit from getting his name off their wage bill. Therefore, the Toffees should think about sanctioning Gbamin’s exit and try to replace him with a quality midfielder before the end of this January transfer window.
