Newcastle United entertained Cambridge United at St. James’ Park earlier today as they looked to earn a win and progress into the next round of the FA Cup. The Magpies kept the ball well in the first half but struggled to make the opening breakthrough as they were held to a goalless draw at half-time.

The visitors took the lead in the 56th minute courtesy of Joe Ironside’s strike but the Magpies failed to come up with a response as they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at home.

Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the match against Cambridge United.

GK: Martin Dubravka – 6/10

The Magpies keeper made a few solid saves during the game but will be disappointed after conceding a goal in the early stages of the second half.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10

He made a good block in the second half but committed some cheap fouls at the back. However, he was a real threat going forward.

CB: Emil Krafth – 6/10

Krafth dealt with the danger well for most of the game but won’t be pleased for conceding a goal in the 56th minute.

CB: Fabian Schar – 6/10

He tried to find Trippier with some good passes but once again failed to keep a clean sheet in front of the Newcastle supporters.

CM: Joelinton – 6/10

He went close to scoring a few times but was denied by some solid goalkeeping from Dimitar Mitov.

CM: Sean Longstaff – 6/10

The English midfield ace struggled to get into the flow of the game and was substituted at the hour mark.

RW: Ryan Fraser – 6/10

Fraser won a couple of freekicks but never looked like he would score today.

ST: Allan Saint-Maximin – 6/10

He showed some flashes of his brilliance but ultimately failed to find the back of the net.

LW: Jacob Murphy – 7/10

Murphy tested the opposition keeper a few times in the first half but could last 60 minutes before he got replaced.

CM: Joe Willock – 5/10

He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game.

LW: Miguel Almiron – 6/10

Almiron didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.

The Spaniard won a free kick after coming off the bench.
