In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Manchester City are facing stiff competition for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. It is understood that the Mancunian outfit will have to battle it out with Juventus, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Dutch playmaker.

De Jong’s Growing Influence At The Nou Camp

De Jong has once again proved himself to be a top performer at the heart of Barca’s midfield despite his team’s struggles to find consistency on the field. The 24-year-old has been involved in 25 matches for the Catalan outfit this season, netting one goal and securing two assists on all fronts.

The Netherlands international has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.4 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 91.3% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

Is De Jong A Decent Choice For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?

De Jong can make a few tackles to earn the ball back for his team. He also doesn’t mind covering for his teammates at the back and usually clears the danger when required.

More importantly, the Dutch sensation has got the vision to set up some clear-cut chances for his teammates to score and can make some clever runs with the ball from midfield. He hardly gives away the ball which makes him a good fit for Pep Guardiola‘s style of play at the Etihad Stadium.

We can expect a player of De Jong’s quality to add more energy and dynamism to Man City‘s attack. At 24, the Arkel-born talent is about to enter his prime, so Guardiola can expect him to make an instant impact if the player decides to seal a move to the northwest of England in the not-too-distant future. Plus, he could serve as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, who is edging closer towards the end of his playing career.

With all things considered, de Jong will be a decent choice for the Mancunian giants to consider this month or at the end of this campaign as he could help them maintain their stranglehold in English football over the next few years.
