Real Madrid entertained Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure a win in the Madrid derby. Los Blancos made a good start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 16th minute when Karim Benzema found the back of the net with an outstanding volley. Carlo Ancelotti’s men protected their lead well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.

Marco Asensio doubled the home team’s advantage in the 57th minute with a composed finish. Atletico failed to come up with a response as Real Madrid managed to earn a 2-0 derby victory at the Spanish capital.

Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the match against Atletico Madrid.

GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8/10

The Belgian keeper made a handful of impressive saves at the back and secured a well-deserved clean sheet at home.

RB: Dani Carvajal – 6.5/10

Carvajal passed the ball with a lot of conviction but failed to make an impact in the final third. He was solid at the back.

CB: Eder Militao – 7/10

The Real Madrid centre-back cleared the danger when needed and put in a good showing at the heart of Ancelotti’s defence.

CB: David Alaba – 6.5/10

He put his foot through the ball to nip the danger in the bud and was accurate with his ball distribution.

LB: Ferland Mendy – 7/10

The Frenchman performed his defensive duties well but lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half.

CM: Luka Modric – 8/10

Modric anchored the midfield with conviction and made a few intelligent runs with the ball from midfield.

CM: Casemiro – 8/10

The Brazilian midfield ace protected his backline with all his strength and even had a couple of lively moments in the final third.

CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10

The German talent helped establish more control for Los Blancos at the centre of the park. He made one good chance going forward.

RW: Marco Asensio – 7/10

He caused a few problems for the Atletico defenders and took his goal well in the 57th minute.

ST: Karim Benzema – 7.5/10

The French centre-forward took the only chance he got in the first half to register a goal. He got substituted at half-time.

LW: Vinicius Junior – 8/10

He continued to show glimpses of his brilliance and added two assists to his game for setting up both of Real Madrid’s goals tonight.

ST: Luka Jovic – 6/10

Jovic didn’t get a sniff at goal.

RB: Nacho – 6/10

He did well to see out the win with the clean sheet intact.
