In a recent interview with Football Insider, ex-Sunderland forward Kevin Phillips urged Liverpool to move in for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Jude Bellingham. Phillips reckons that the English whizkid will be an ideal replacement for Jordan Henderson as he said,
“He’s (Bellingham) developed into a top-class player already at Dortmund.
“I think that link is with one eye on a replacement for Jordan Henderson. You wouldn’t say his career is winding down just yet, but you can almost see how he would fit into place.
“How much would he cost? Who knows? You’re probably talking at least £60million.
“He’s such a talent, and he can develop even further at Liverpool – as every player does under Jurgen Klopp.
“It would be a huge coup for them if they can get that one done next summer.”
Bellingham’s Impressive Run Of Form At Signal Iduna Park
Bellingham is having another impressive campaign in German football after catching the eye by putting in a run of productive performances for Dortmund in the final third. The 18-year-old has registered three goals and nine assists in 23 appearances for the German club this season across all fronts.
The Stourbridge-born talent has been a consistent performer at the heart of Marco Rose’s midfield as he is averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.4 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 83.7% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Bellingham A Good Choice For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Bellingham can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a solid tackler of the ball and has got good defensive awareness to earn possession back for his side. The ten-time England international is not afraid to put his foot through the ball when needed and can make some clever runs from midfield. He is a decent passer as well and has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass up top.
Bellingham can even contribute by scoring the odd goal from time to time. We can expect the Dortmund start to enhance the depth of Jurgen Klopp‘s match-day squad if the Reds decide to make a move for him next summer.
Bellingham is good enough to serve as a perfect long-term successor to Jordan Henderson at Anfield. At 18, the future is quite bright for the English talent which makes him a brilliant choice for the Merseyside outfit to consider for the long run.
