Manchester City entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they hoped to earn all three points at home. Man City struggled to make the opening breakthrough in the first half but found themselves at a numerical advantage as Raul Jimenez was sent off just before the stroke of half-time.
Pep Guardiola’s men pushed on in search of the opening goal in the second half and finally managed to get their noses ahead in the 66th minute via Raheem Sterling’s penalty. Man City hung on to their narrow advantage and secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the clash against Wolves.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made a couple of impressive saves during the game and earned a well-deserved clean sheet at home.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 8/10
The Portuguese right-back was solid at the back and created multiple chances for his teammates to score. He also made two good runs with the ball down the right wing.
CB: Ruben Dias – 6.5/10
Dias made a couple of important interceptions and did what was required of him to restrict the opposition from scoring today.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Man City centre-half was strong in the air and performed well enough to earn a clean sheet during the 90 minutes.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7/10
He won the ball back a few times for his team and engineered two inviting chances in the final third.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6.5/10
Gundogan had a few bright moments in the first half but could last only 55 minutes.
CM: Rodri – 8/10
The Spaniard bossed the game at the centre of the park as he won possession back quite a few times for his team. He also had plenty of lively moments in the Wolves half.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 6.5/10
The Portugal international caused a few problems for the opposition but failed to register a goal today.
RW: Raheem Sterling – 8/10
The ex-Liverpool talent was a constant menace for the Wolves defenders and created several key opportunities for others around him. He scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot which was enough to give Man City the win.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 6.5/10
Jesus caused some headaches for the Wolves centre-backs but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
LW: Jack Grealish – 6.5/10
He orchestrated a couple of meaningful openings for his teammates but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Substitutes:
ST: Phil Foden – 6.5/10
Foden showed some glimpses of his brilliance but couldn’t find the back of the net.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
