In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that West Ham United are among clubs hoping to land Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie. It is understood that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur and other English clubs in the race to sign the United States international.

McKennie’s Up And Down Season In Italian Football

McKennie is having a mixed campaign at the Allianz Stadium after putting in a couple of impressive displays as a regular member of Massimiliano Allegri’s first team. The 23-year-old has banged in two goals in 13 matches for the Turin giants this season across all fronts.

The Texas-born talent has contributed in little ways at the heart of Juve’s midfield as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has been a bit untidy when distributing possession going forward, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 73.3% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Is McKennie The Right Choice For West Ham United Manager David Moyes?

McKennie can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He can make a few solid tackles to secure the ball back for his team and is not afraid to clear his lines when needed. The 28-time United States international is a moderately paced midfielder who can make some clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box. Furthermore, he has got a great leap in him that helps him win a few aerial duels in midfield.

At the moment, McKennie is getting a regular run of games at Juventus. He is under contract at Turin until the summer of 2025, so it would take a big offer for West Ham to win the race for his services next year.

The Hammers can definitely use someone of his skillset who could serve as a decent successor to Mark Noble at the London Stadium. He will also increase competition for places within David Moyes‘ match-day squad. Thus, McKennie will be a good choice for the East London club to pursue in January or next summer.
