In a recent report by El Nacional, Liverpool are interested in signing 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde from Real Madrid. After being integrated in Real’s first team post the 2017-18 season, the midfielder has enjoyed a good spell with the team but with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm and his recent fitness issues, along with Camavinga’s arrival, it has been difficult for the Uruguayan to break into the first team consistently this season.
Valverde Not Being Ancelotti’s Best Midfield Option
Despite growing into a vital player for the Spanish giants, Valverde hasn’t got much playing time this season under Carlo Ancelotti. The recruitment of Edouardo Camavinga has certainly denied him the consistent appearances he hopes to make for the club and even with Kroos’s injury, he has not been guaranteed a starting spot in the team. Competing with the likes of Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos hasn’t been easy for Valverde but now it seems that he isn’t even the fourth choice midfielder he hoped he would be.
Federico Valverde has featured across 12 games in all competitions for Real this season with only 1 assist to his name. He has a contract till 2027 with the club along with a huge release clause but things can change if the Uruguayan’s game-time gets affected or if Real consider selling him just like what they did with Raphael Varane last summer.
Why Liverpool Must Go All Out To Buy This Midfielder Next Summer?
Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a huge admirer of Federico Valverde. It is a no brainer that the Merseyside club lacks quality depth in the midfield department and even more after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum last summer. The likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago are now in their 30’s and James Milner is in the final stages of his career and hence Valverde will be a key signing for Liverpool if they want to bolster their midfield options.
Valverde has a lot of qualities under his belt as he is strong and can get past opponents with his dribbling ability. He can run relentlessly and that is an ideal trait for Klopp’s preferred midfielder. He signed a contract with Real Madrid earlier this season but Liverpool can still be hopeful with Ancelotti saying that a player who wants to leave the club must be able to do so.
