Barcelona faced off against Villarreal at Estadio de la Cerámica earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points on their travels in La Liga. The Catalan club kept things solid in the first half and went into the half-time break without a goal to show for their efforts.

Xavi’s men made a bright start to the second half and made the opening breakthrough in the 48th minute when Frenkie de Jong scored with a neat finish. However, the home team drew level in the 76th minute when Samuel Chukwueze found the back of the net. The Catalans giants refused to give up the three points as they netted two quick-fire goals via Memphis Depay’s tidy finish and a successful penalty from Philippe Coutinho. The match ended with Barca securing a much-needed 3-1 win away from home.

Let’s take a look at how each Barcelona player performed during the clash against Villarreal.

GK: Marc-André ter Stegen – 6/10

The German keeper made just one save in the game. However, he couldn’t do much about Chukwueze’s goal.

RB: Eric Garcia – 6/10

He tried his best to keep things stable inside his half but failed to influence the game at the other end.

CB: Ronald Araujo – 7/10

Araujo made some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition. He also pulled off a couple of crucial interceptions at the back and didn’t shy away from clearing his lines when needed.

CB: Gerard Pique – 6.5/10

The Spaniard won the ball back for Barca on a few occasions and passed the ball relatively well from the back.

LB: Jordi Alba – 7/10

The Spanish full-back fulfilled his defensive duties well and caused a few headaches for the opposition from the left-wing.

CM: Nico Gonzalez – 7/10

The youngster made a few promising runs with the ball from midfield. He got replaced in the 79th minute.

CM: Sergio Busquets – 6.5/10

He offered decent protection for his teammates at the back but failed to make an impact in the final third.

CM: Frenkie De Jong – 8/10

The Dutch talent caused all sorts of problems for the opposition with his clever link-up play and movement. He created some inviting chances for others around him and gave Barca the lead just after the half-time break.

RW: Abde Ezzalzouli – 7/10

He was a real threat down the right flank and played a big part in the lead-up to De Jong’s goal in the 48th minute.

ST: Memphis Depay – 8/10

Depay was a constant menace for the Villarreal centre-backs and got his deserved goal with just two minutes left on the clock.

LW: Gavi – 6/10

He worked hard but struggled to catch the eye with his performance tonight.

RW: Ousmane Dembele – 6/10

Dembele hardly got a sniff at goal.

LB: Oscar Mingueza – 6/10

He did enough work defensively to restrict the opposition from scoring more than once in the final quarter of the game.

CAM: Philippe Coutinho – 7/10

The ex-Liverpool sensation kept his calm to successfully convert his penalty in injury-time.
