Foot Mercato has recently reported that Newcastle United are in talks to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele. It is understood that the Magpies are planning to offer the French speedster a lucrative contract when his Barca contract runs out at the end of this campaign.
Dembele’s Solid Campaign At The Nou Camp Recently
The Vernon-born sensation had a productive season in Spanish football after putting in a series of outstanding displays as a key member of Barca’s starting XI. The 24-year-old did well to stay injury-free in the previous campaign and banged in 11 goals while grabbing five assists in 44 matches for the Catalans across various competitions.
Dembele gave a good account of himself in the attacking end of the field by averaging 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even quite careful when linking up play with his teammates in the opposition half after making 85.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will The France International Bring To Newcastle United?
Dembele is one of the quickest wingers in La Liga and can often turn on the afterburners to lose his marker in the final third. He is an excellent dribbler with the ball and can score and create goals consistently at the highest level when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch.
The French talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well but has a poor injury record which makes him a risky option for the Magpies to pursue next summer. Still, the fact that Dembele will be available as a free agent should put Newcastle in pole position to recruit him as they have the financial power to offer the Frenchman a big-money contract.
We can expect Dembele to bring a lot of pace and goals to the Magpies‘ attack. Plus, he could go on to form a lethal attacking partnership with Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons. Thus, the Tyneside giants would be wise to do everything in their power to get Dembele signed up when he becomes available on a free transfer at the end of this season.
