In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan has reckoned that Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is worth around £50m. Whelan said,
“There’s no doubt that he’s their golden ticket.
“He’s the one player in that side who would command a high fee, and the fact he’s got a long time left on his deal will serve the club well.
“He is the one player who stands out in that poor Newcastle side, with his quality and direct running, as well as the influence he can have on games.
“You’re probably looking at around £50million for a player like Saint-Maximin.
“There’s absolutely no doubt he can succeed for clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea.”
Saint-Maximin’s Rich Vein Of Form For The Magpies This Season
The 24-year-old has made an impressive start to this campaign after putting in some productive displays while functioning as a makeshift striker for Newcastle United. Saint-Maximin participated in eight matches for the Tyneside club this season, netting two goals and securing three assists in the process on all fronts.
The talented speedster has been a consistent performer for the Magpies in the final third as he is averaging 2.0 shots, 2.3 key passes and 4.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 79% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should The Magpies Cash In On Saint-Maximin?
Saint-Maximin is currently one of the first names in Steve Bruce’s teamsheet, especially due to the injury absence of Callum Wilson. The French attacker has been Newcastle‘s best hope for a goal in recent weeks. He is one of the quickest players in Premier League football and can often turn on the afterburners to get past his marker in the final third.
The Magpies star has a knack for finding space and is proficient at getting a few shots in on-target. He can even create some promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. Furthermore, Saint-Maximin can be a joy to watch when he is dribbling at full swing in the opponent’s half.
The French sensation’s current contract at St. James’ Park is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Newcastle would be wise to listen to Whelan’s advice and demand around £50m for their prized asset as they have no immediate need to sell him for anything less. Having said that, Bruce should prioritize on keeping hold of Saint-Maximin and only consider cashing in on him if a club decide to launch a big-money offer for his services.
