According to Wales Online, Swansea City are in the market for Sam Greenwood. The Leeds United youngster is facing an uncertain future at the club and although Marcelo Bielsa isn’t all too keen on sanctioning his departure, he could be set for a January exit nevertheless if he continues to struggle with lack of game-time in the senior side.

Sam Greenwood’s Story At Leeds United

Sam Greenwood was one of Arsenal academy’s brightest prospects before he opted to join Leeds United last summer. It turned out to be a wise move as the youngster starred for the club’s reserve side last season, notably netting 12 goals in 18 Premier League 2 appearances.

During his time in Leeds so far, Greenwood has made a name for himself with his productivity. But while a centre forward by trade, the Sunderland native is more of a modern striker, who can provide the tactical flexibility in the attacking third.

Indeed, the 19-year-old can operate in multiple positions including right-wing and even in a withdrawn role. It makes him quite similar to current Leeds United star Rodrigo Moreno.

Unfortunately for Greenwood, though, the player hasn’t been able to make any waves in the senior side thus far. He has only made one appearance for the Whites, which also came last season, in an FA Cup encounter against Crawley Town.

Should Leeds United Sanction A January Sale?

After an excellent campaign last season, Leeds United are currently ruing their decision of not signing a proper alternative for Patrick Bamford this summer. The former Chelsea prodigy has missed a few matches due to injury and his preferred alternative Rodrigo Moreno hasn’t been able to provide the goods going forward.

It does bode well for someone like Greenwood, who is hoping to make a mark in the first-team. In fact, the youngster has made bench appearances multiple times already this season.

However, it appears Marcelo Bielsa favours another attacking talent in Joe Gelhardt. The former QPR prodigy is more of a goalscorer than Greenwood, which is what Leeds United really need right now, after scoring just seven goals in seven matches in the Premier League this term.

Hence, the Whites should definitely look to send Greenwood out on a loan deal in January. The potential exposure to Championship football will help enhance the quality and skill of the former Arsenal prodigy. Given the way some of these youngsters have shone in the English second division, Greenwood could certainly find his calling and formally kickstart his professional career, most likely at Swansea.
