It’s been a lucky escape for Rangers as they avoided a late scare against St Mirren and unlike the Hearts game, secured all three points from yet another close contest. But they must recover in time for a tricky midweek tie versus Aberdeen. The Dons are back to winning ways after a dreadful run and the fixture on Wednesday night won’t be a stroll in the park for the reigning Scottish champions.

Aberdeen are yet to settle in under Stephen Glass but have registered a massive win on Saturday afternoon against Hibernian. They looked resilient at the back and the Gers, therefore, must covert their chances to avoid an upset at Ibrox. They have maintained supremacy in recent meetings and the former Celtic skipper Scott Brown is likely to be jeered by the supporters all throughout the evening.

The rotation continues between the sticks and it is indeed difficult to predict who would start against Aberdeen. Jon McLaughlin returned in goal to face the Buddies, however, Steven Gerrard should opt for Allan McGregor’s experience in this relatively high-profile outing.

Leon Balogun has been majestic at the heart of the backline and is expected to partner with Connor Goldson once more despite recent injury scares. James Tavernier would be a threat with his overlapping runs, crosses and cut insides, but the right fullback must exhibit more composure and intent while performing his defensive duties. Borna Barisic has been lively from the left-hand flank, but the manager might prefer Calvin Bassey’s in the attacking third.

Ryan Jack has returned to team training following a long injury layoff but is too early to make it to the matchday squad. Gerrard has ample midfield options to select from and should restore Glen Kamara in the middle of the park after resting him on Sunday afternoon. Steven Davis would make way for the Fin as the likes of John Lundstram and Joe Aribo have cemented their place, thanks to their dynamicity and ball-carrying attributes. The likes of Juninho Bacuna and Scott Arfield might play their part as substitutes.

Alfredo Morelos fired in his 100th Rangers goal against St Mirren en route to scripting a massive win in Paisley. The Colombian should spearhead the attack, whereas both Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe must retain their roles after a promising weekend display. Ryan Kent continues his recovery from a hamstring strain but the gaffer might rely on Fashion Sakala and Scott Wright to make a difference from the bench.
