In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Premier League player Allan Hutton urged Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer to pen a new contract with the West Midlands club. Hutton said,

“Oh exactly. You sign right away.

“As soon as they offer it, you sign it because you’ve shown your hard work and Dean Smith’s shown faith in him to get him into the team.

“There’s a pathway, we’ve seen it with (Jacob) Ramsey, (Carney) Chukwuemeka, Archer, (Jaden) Philogene-Bidace.

“All these guys are from the youth team coming through and they’ve been given opportunities. He’s learning, he’s learning on the job in the first team.

“He’s been given that opportunity. For me, if I was a youngster and I’m him, you sign it and you continue your development where you are.”

Archer’s Excellent Rise At Villa Park This Season

The talented striker is a product of Aston Villa’s academy and deserves credit for breaking into Dean Smith’s first team this season. Archer did well to score four goals in four senior appearances for his current employers so far this season.

The English sensation has already produced a couple of influential performances as the focal point of Villa’s attack. Archer has averaged 4.0 shots, 0.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the EFL Cup this season. He even distributed possession with conviction, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 77.3% in league cup football (stats via whoscored).

Hutton Urges Archer To Pen A New Contract With The Villans: Good Move For Both Parties?

Archer can strike the ball with venom and is full of energy when making some clever runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He is slowly but surely transforming himself into a capable finisher in the attacking end of the pitch.

However, the 20-year-old is still quite inexperienced at the highest level. Thus, only time will tell whether he can make himself a regular starter at Villa Park by toppling either Ollie Watkins or Danny Ings for the right to play regularly at the West Midlands club in the coming seasons.

At 20, Archer still has a lot to learn but there is no doubt that he has got the potential to become a future star in English football as long as he can continue to improve himself on the training field. Hence, it seems like a wise move for both the player and the Midlands club if he pens a new long-term contract soon.

Smith has proven in the recent past that he can get the best out of the English prospect. Therefore, the Villans should consider putting their faith on Archer so that he can bring some success back to Villa Park in the years to come.
