In a recent print edition, Correio da Manhã mentioned that Everton are keeping tabs on FC Porto winger Luis Diaz. It is understood that there are many clubs in England, including the Toffees, showing interest in recruiting the Colombian wide player.
Diaz’s Outstanding Form At The Estádio do Dragão This Season
The 24-year-old has made a majestic start to this campaign as he has put in a series of eye-catching performances for Porto in recent weeks. The Barrancas-born sensation made ten appearances for the Portuguese giants this season, netting six goals and earning one assist in various competitions.
Diaz has been a consistent performer for his current employers down the left flank based on his average of 2.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game in Liga NOS and the UEFA Champions League this season. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball going forward, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.9% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Diaz has shown plenty of signs of maturity so far this season and seems like he is good enough to fight for a regular starting place in the Premier League if Everton can find a way to get him on board when the transfer window reopens in January or at the end of this season.
Should The Toffees Bring Diaz To Goodison Park?
Diaz is not shy of having a shot at goal when afforded time and space by the opposition in the final third. He has added plenty of goals to his game but can improve his playmaking if he intends to bag a few more assists in the coming seasons.
However, there is no denying that Diaz can still create some encouraging openings in and around the opponent’s penalty and is proficient at completing some dangerous dribbles out on the wide areas. At 24, the Colombia international will only get better with each season, so the Toffees will do well to bring him to the blue half of Merseyside next year.
Diaz is good enough to compete with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the right to lead the line for Rafael Benitez‘s first XI up top. All in all, the Merseyside outfit should consider orchestrating a move to secure the signature of the Colombian wide player.
