In a recent report, German news outlet Sport 1 revealed that Manchester City could rival Manchester United for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland next summer. It is understood that both Manchester clubs are set to go on a bidding war in the race to acquire the signature of the Norwegian centre-forward at the end of this campaign.
Haaland’s Excellent Numbers In The German Top-Flight Last Season
It was another incredible campaign for Haaland on a personal front as he banged in plenty of match-winning goals for Dortmund over the past 12 months. The Leeds-born attacker was involved in 41 matches for the German club last season, registering 41 goals and 12 assists on all fronts.
The 21-year-old continued to prove his worth as a prolific goal-getter by averaging 3.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the final third after making 72.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Haaland is only going to get better with each season, so it is only logical for a top club like Man City to engineer a move to bring him to the Etihad Stadium next summer. He could help fill the void left by Sergio Aguero’s departure from the blue half of Manchester earlier this summer and could go on to become a future star in English football someday.
Is Haaland A Dream Signing For Man City?
Haaland has established himself as one of the most featured strikers in European football. He has a knack for finding the back of the net consistently for his team and can even chip in by picking up a few important assists in the attacking end of the field.
The Norway international can use his strong 1.94m frame to be a dominant presence in the air and is usually quite accurate with his strikes at goal. Still, Haaland needs to take care of the ball a bit better when interchanging possession with his teammates deep inside the opponent’s half.
Haaland will add a lot of quality to Pep Guardiola’s attack and has what it takes to be a regular goal-scorer for them in Premier League football. Guardiola has even got the luxury to offer him a regular starting place at the Etihad next season. At 21, Haaland has got the ceiling to become one of the best players of his generation which makes him a dream signing for Man City to consider in the summer of 2022.
