Recently, Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz offered a positive update on his future despite being linked with a move to Roma earlier this summer. The South American sensation posted a photo of him in training on Instagram and wrote, “I’m happy here.”

Douglas’ Impressive Season In English Football

Douglas had a decent season with the West Midlands club recently after he managed to put in a run of solid displays for them at the centre of the park. The Rio de Janeiro-born talent took part in 34 matches for the Villans in the previous campaign, picking up three assists, eight yellow cards and one red card across all fronts.

The Brazilian talent anchored the midfield with conviction as he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He also retained possession quite well for his side in midfield based on his pass completion rate of 85.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Douglas has already started two of Aston Villa’s three league matches so far, which suggests that he is still a big part of Dean Smith’s plans for this campaign. The Brazilian is good enough to help the Villans push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next year, so the West Midlands giants have done well to keep hold of him beyond this summer.

Douglas Is Happy With Life At Aston Villa: Big Boost For Smith?

Douglas enjoys playing as a holding midfielder as he can read the danger quickly and doesn’t take too many risks with his clearances when his teammates are on the backfoot. He is a tough-tacking midfielder who has got the tenacity to secure possession back for his side at the centre of the park.

The Brazilian talent can orchestrate some decent plays for others around him and is a tidy passer of the ball. However, he needs to add some goals to his game if he wants to take his game to another level. Even then, there is no denying that Douglas offers a lot of bite and steel to Villa’s midfield and could go on to become a future star for them in Premier League football.

At 23, Douglas is slowly but surely maturing into a solid anchorman in midfield. Therefore, his recent update on his happiness at Villa Park will be a massive boost for Smith who will be eager to get the best out of the Brazilian after this international break.
