Chelsea will lock horns with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, hoping to pick up all three points. The Blues will be heading into the contest on the back of a promising 1-1 draw against Liverpool, whereas the Villans recorded a similar 1-1 stalemate against Brentford on matchday 3.
Thomas Tuchel will probably opt for the 3-4-3 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Mateo Kovacic, and Trevoh Chalobah look likely to make their way back into the starting eleven.
3-4-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup Vs Aston Villa
Defence
Eduardo Mendy is expected to start in between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Senegalese shot-stopper will be hoping to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Saturday.
Andreas Christensen is expected to start at the heart of Blues’ backline, whereas Antonio Rudiger will feature at the left centre-back spot. Trevoh Chalobah will fulfil the right centre-back position.
However, their main objective will be to keep Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia quiet throughout the ninety minutes.
FIFA’s ban on Brazilian Premier League players could forbid Thiago Silva from playing a part in Chelsea’s next match.
Midfield
Given N’Golo Kante’s injury concern, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho might fulfil the holding midfield positions, with the latter occupying a more central role. The pair would be looking to dominate the midfield proceedings.
Marcos Alonso might start at the left wing-back position, whereas Cesar Azpilicueta will fill in on the other flank as the right wing-back. The duo would be expected to stretch Chelsea’s attacks in the opposition half.
Ben Chilwell will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the latter stages of the game if needed.
Saul Niguez could also make his debut from the bench.
Attack
Mason Mount and Kai Havertz will slot into the attacking midfield roles. The duo would be determined to set up some clear cut goal-scoring chances for the front-men.
Romelu Lukaku will lead the line for the hosts against Aston Villa. The Belgian international put up a phenomenal performance against the Gunners on matchday 2 as he got his name on the scoresheet, and he would be hoping to repeat more of the same this weekend.
Timo Werner might come on to make a cameo appearance in the second forty-five minutes.
