According to Leeds Live, Adam Forshaw is in contention for a January sale, as Leeds United look to offload fringe players in an attempt to fund move for winter targets. The Whites clearly haven’t had a great start to the season, notably losing to Liverpool on Sunday, which is why the board is now keen on adding January reinforcements. But it appears Forshaw is a part of the chopping block, alongside Tyler Roberts and Robin Koch.

Adam Forshaw’s Unlucky Spell At Leeds United

Formerly of the Everton youth academy, Adam Forshaw joined Leeds United in January 2018, in a €5 million move from Middlesbrough. He was brought in to offer depth and support in midfield, particularly to Kalvin Phillips.

The midfielder even played a key role for Leeds during the backend of the 2017/18 campaign and indeed, the 2018/19 campaign, featuring in 30 league games. But at the start of the promotion-winning 2019/20 season, Forshaw’s prospects at Leeds were derailed by a nasty hip injury that kept him out for a total of 18 months.

Forshaw featured in only seven league games during the promotion-winning season and missed the entirety of the Premier League campaign last term. As a result, the Englishman is yet to even feature in the new season, though he did make his comeback to the pitch and was involved in the squad that faced Alexandra Crewe in the Carabao Cup.

Should Leeds United Offload Him In January?

Adam Forshaw’s return to full fitness has given Marcelo Bielsa some much-needed breathing space in the midfield department. But after a spell of 18 months on the sidelines and no real experience of playing in the Premier League, he doesn’t appear to be a viable first-team option for the club.

During his spell on the sidelines, Forshaw had already fallen behind Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and even Stuart Dallas in the pecking order. Hence, it would be a difficult job for Bielsa to accommodate him into his plans during the course of the ongoing campaign.

A move away from Elland Road, therefore, should be the most logical option for Forshaw. The midfielder will be keen on reviving his career elsewhere after an unfortunate spell at Leeds United.

With 123 appearances in Championship, the 29-year-old will be rated highly in the English second division and could even become an asset for any top-tier outfit during the second half of the campaign. For Leeds, his departure will free up space for a new midfielder in January, so the move could make sense for all parties involved.
