In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard is unhappy with life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. It is understood that the Norway international is quite unsettled at the Spanish capital and might part ways with Los Blancos this summer (via Marca).

Odegaard’s Impressive Loan Spell At North London

Odegaard experienced a productive loan spell with Arsenal last season when he produced a handful of promising displays as a crucial member of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI. The Drammen-born sensation registered two goals and two assists in 20 matches for the Gunners in the previous campaign across all fronts.

The 22-year-old proved himself to be a decent playmaker at the Emirates Stadium as he averaged 1.1 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Premier League season. He even distributed the ball accurately in the opponent’s half after completing 90.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Odegaard’s current deal at the Bernabeu is set to expire in the summer of 2023, so Los Blancos are under no immediate pressure to sell him this summer. However, Carlo Ancelotti should be afraid to keep an unhappy player at the club as he might disrupt the chemistry of Real Madrid’s squad next season.

Should Los Blancos Cash In On Odegaard This Summer?

Odegaard can be a good playmaker in the final third when he is playing regularly on the field. He has a knack for finding space and can orchestrate a few clear-cut chances for his teammates to score. The Norwegian skipper can even contribute by netting the odd goal but needs to be more clinical in the final third. He primarily operates in the number ten position but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if needed.

The talented attacking midfielder is a tidy passer of the ball and can keep possession moving in tight spaces as he is a technically gifted footballer. Odegaard could benefit from a change of scenery this summer, so Real Madrid should think about cashing in on him during this summer transfer window.

It is only fair to the player that Ancelotti cuts him loose as he is clearly not in line to play regularly for Los Blancos in the upcoming campaign. Maybe a move back to the Premier League might suit Odegaard’s playing style as he managed to impress during his loan spell in England last season.
