In a recent interview with Sport1, former German striker Michael Rummenigge tipped Liverpool to recruit Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland next summer. Rummenigge said,

“Real and Barca have financial problems so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too. I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland.”

Haaland’s Exceptional Numbers In German Football Last Season

Haaland continued to prove his worth as a prolific goal machine for Dortmund last season after he put in several productive displays as the spearhead of their attack. The Norway international registered 41 goals and 12 assists in 41 matches for the German giants in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.

The 21-year-old caught the eye with his performances in the final third as he averaged 3.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Bundesliga football. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play deep inside the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 72.7% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).

Haaland’s current deal at Signal Iduna Park is set to run out in the summer of 2024, so the Reds would have to table a big-money offer if they decide to bring the Norwegian frontman to the northwest of England next summer.

Will Haaland Be A Dream Option For The Reds?

Haaland is a quick and powerful centre-forward who can time his runs well when trying to get in behind the opponent’s backline. He has converted himself into a deadly finisher in the final third and can also chip in by picking up some important assists for his team.

The 12-time Norway international is a generational talent, so it makes sense for the Reds to make a move to land him at the end of this campaign. However, Haaland is not a great passer of the ball which could see him struggle in Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 system at Merseyside.

Even then, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting him as Haaland is a consistent goal-getter who has the potential to become one of the best players of his generation. At 21, the Norwegian youngster has got a very bright future ahead of him, so the Reds can reap the dividends of signing him in the long run. All in all, Haaland will be a dream option for Klopp to consider next summer as he will enhance the quality of his starting XI at Anfield considerably in the coming seasons.
