In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer. It is understood that the Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the German midfield ace but doesn’t have enough room for him in his squad for the 2020-21 campaign.
❗️News #Neuhaus: It is likely that he will stay in Gladbach. #Klopp has recently reaffirmed his interest in him, is a big fan. FN has been informed about this. But there is currently no place in the Reds' squad. Cards could be reshuffled 2022. For #FCBayern as well. @SPORT1 #LFC

Neuhaus’ Impressive Form At Borussia-Park
The 24-year-old had an outstanding campaign in German football last season when he produced a handful of productive displays at the heart of Monchengladbach’s midfield. The German playmaker featured in 45 matches for his current employers in the previous campaign, netting eight goals and grabbing eight assists in all competitions.
Neuhaus managed to influence the game in both halves after he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga last season. He even distributed the ball with a lot of conviction based on his pass completion rate of 84.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The talented midfielder has shown some signs of maturity at Borussia-Park over the past 12 months. Hence, he could have been a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool as he would have served as a perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer earlier this summer.
Should The Reds Step Up Their Pursuit Of Neuhaus?
Neuhaus is an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs towards the opponent’s penalty area. He can retain possession quite well for his side and can also get stuck in with some solid tackles to earn the ball back at the centre of the park. Neuhaus is primarily a box to box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if required.
The six-time German international added a lot of goals and assists to his game last season which makes him a good fit for the Reds during this summer transfer period. He has the potential to become a future star in English football. Thus, Klopp would be wise to step up his pursuit of the German sensation. At 24, Neuhaus’ prime years are ahead of him, so we can expect to see the best out of him in the coming seasons.
The Merseyside outfit need a new midfielder following the departure of Wijnaldum who has left a big hole in Klopp’s midfield. James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcântara are all on the wrong side of the 30s which makes a young playmaker of Neuhaus’ quality a necessity for the Reds to consider in this off-season.
