According to Telegraph, Arsenal have expressed interest in Lautaro Martinez. They have approached Inter Milan, thus exploring the possibility of a potential summer swoop for the highly-rated attacker. The Serie A giants have no intention to sell Martinez this summer, but it won’t be surprising to see them fold with the right offer, as his sale could lead to some much-needed financial injection.
Lautaro Martinez: The Future Of Argentine Football?
Lautaro Martinez has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence since his 2018 move to Inter Milan. The forward instantly made an impact in Serie A, notching up 27 appearances in his debut season, scoring six goals.
However, the Argentine has really sparked into life under the leadership of Antonio Conte. Since the 2019/20 campaign, Martinez has been involved in a total of 46 league goals in just 73 appearances. 27 of them came in the 2020/21 campaign, with the forward’s contributions and partnership alongside Romelu Lukaku playing a key role in helping Inter seal the Scudetto.
The 23-year-old was also involved in the Argentina side that famously lifted the elusive Copa America title this summer. He wasn’t among the best performers, but the Inter Milan superstar is tipped as the desired long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero, as far as La Albiceleste is concerned.
What Does He Bring To The Table?
A centre forward by trade, Martinez is a dynamic attacker who relies heavily on his pace and clever movements in the final third. The Argentine is almost deadly from counter-attacks and tends to thrive alongside a more physically astute forward, much like Chelsea star Timo Werner.
However, the former Racing Club prodigy is much more lethal in front of goal. It is backed up by his excellent scoring tally at Inter Milan while the attacker’s tally of 20 assists in competitive matches is indicative of his ability to create in the final third.
Martinez is quite challenging in one-on-one physical duels as well, although the biggest issue surrounding the 23-year-old is his occasional lack of consistency. He does indeed tend to disappear without proper support around him, making him quite similar to Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Is He A Good Option For Arsenal?
Lautaro Martinez will no doubt be a massive coup for Arsenal, as the forward boasts quality and has proven himself at the highest level of football. He can be an ideal upgrade over Alexandre Lacazette and perhaps even Aubameyang.
The Argentine’s excellent positioning sense is almost tailor-made for the club’s style of play. His versatility should also tune in well alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe in the final third.
In fact, it might be a clever move if the Gunners look to facilitate a potential swap between Aubameyang and Martinez this summer, as the Gabonese international has clearly struggled to adapt to life under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta.
Aside from that, it is hard to imagine Arsenal affording Lautaro Martinez, with the Inter Milan superstar easily expected to cost a fortune this summer.
