In a recent report, The Daily Mail has mentioned that West Ham United are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley this summer. It is believed that the Hammers are showing interest in the English playmaker but could opt for an initial loan deal (via The Daily Mail).

Barkley’s Up And Down Loan Spell At The West Midlands Recently

It has been a lacklustre loan spell for Barkley at Villa Park as he has struggled to be consistent with his performances at the centre of Dean Smith’s midfield. The 27-year-old has been sidelined for a lot of key games this season because of multiple injuries.

The Liverpool-born player has caught the eye at times after registering three goals and one assist in 24 appearances for the Villans this term across all competitions. Barkley deserves a pat on the back for averaging 1.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 84.8% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Barkley needs a change of scenery to kickstart his career, so joining the Hammers could be a tempting move for him even if it is on another season-long loan deal. An experienced manager like West Ham boss David Moyes could unlock the best out of him in the next Premier League campaign as long as the player can stay injury-free.

Should The Hammers Get Barkley On Board This Summer?

Barkley can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He is a deceptively quick midfielder who can cause a lot of problems for his marker in the final third. The English midfield ace has got what it takes to set up some inviting chances for others around him.

However, the lack of consistency and frequent injuries have hampered his career of late, so he might get a chance to rediscover himself at the top level if West Ham decide to sign him on loan in this off-season. Barkley will bolster Moyes’ midfield options and add even more depth to their squad.

Hence, it makes sense for the East London outfit to take a chance on the underperforming English talent by getting him on board during this summer transfer window. He has got a lot of experience under his belt and could serve as a valuable squad player at the London Stadium next season.
